How To Find Your Kua Number

The Feng Shui practice of using the Life Kua number is based on the Eight Mansions School of Feng Shui( part of compass school). Essentially, your Life

Kua number tells you what your lucky and unlucky directions are, and what aspects of luck are affected by your auspicious and inauspicious directions.

Kua Numbers and Your Luck

The Kua is a a subset of Bagua, where “ba” means eight (8), and “gua” is another spelling for “Kua.” There is a total of eight Kua, and their numbers are usually 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 (there is no number 5). In Eight In mansions, each person belongs to one of these eight Kua numbers.

Your Kua number will tell you your auspicious and inauspicious directions and what aspects of life they affect and influence. You will have four auspicious directions balanced with four inauspicious ones. The majority of your auspicious directions will either be on the east or on the west, depending on your Kua number. Each direction will represent a a different aspect of your life.

The East and West Group

Out of the eight Kua numbers, four are in the East Group, and the other four are in the West Group.

The East Group has Kua numbers 1, 3, 4, and 9.

The West Group has Kua numbers 2, 6, 7, and 8.

The four auspicious directions of the East group include North, South, East, and Southeast, balanced with the other four unlucky directions. The West group is the complete opposite, with their four auspicious directions at West, Northwest, Southwest, and Northeast.

How to calculate your Kua Number?

According to your Birth Date, your ‘Life Kua’ or ‘Ming Gua’ is calculated. Each Kua is unique and will indicate your favorable and unfavorable directions and locations. The modern interpretation of the Kua Number is called Personal Energy Number. 

To calculate the Kua number the significant number is your birth year. 

A Feng Shui year starts on 4th Feb and ends on 3rd Feb of the next solar year.

Example: If you are born Between 1st Jan to 3rd Feb 1988 then your birth year will be counted as 1987 for Kua No. Calculations.

Kua number calculation for Males

For all Males born before year 2000 

1. Add the last two digits of your birth year.

2. Reduce it to a single digit.

3. Next, deduct that single digit from 10.

4. The answer is your Kua Number

Example :

1) February 10, 1962

6+2=8

10 – 8= 2

Kua No is 2

2) February 3, 1962

6+1=7

10 – 7 = 3

Kua No is 3

For all Males born after year 2000

Deduct from 9 for males instead of 10. Rest of the calculation is the same.

For all Females born before year 2000

1. Add the last two digits of your birth year.

2. Reduce it to a single digit.

3. Add 5 to that single digit.

Example :

1) February 10, 1962

6+2=8

5 + 8 = 13

1+3=4

Kua No is 4

2) February 3, 1962

6+1=7

5 + 7 = 12

1+2=3

Kua No is 3

For all Females born after year 2000

Add 6 instead of 5 for females. Rest of the calculation is the same.

Special Cases

if your resultant number is 5, then Males will assume a Kua Number of #2 and Females will assume Kua #8

if your resultant number is 0 then take it as Kua Number 9
